Lloyd Wieslander died February 6, 2006 of respiratory failure. He was 84. Lloyd lived a full life filled with laughter and love. He was many things during his 84 years; a son, student, soldier, husband, father, grandfather and a great grandfather. Lloyd was loved immensely and will be missed even more.
Lloyd was married April 11, 1942 to Louise Weston. They were married for 50 years before her death in 1993. They had three sons, David, Jerry and Eddie and one daughter, Mina. Lloyd moved with his family to Mitchellville in 1950. He owned a gas station in 1956 and a farm just outside of town. In 1958, he worked for the Building and Grounds Department for the State of Iowa and retired after 30 years.
Lloyd proudly served his country with the Army during WWII. He was deployed to Africa as a compaction inspector. Upon returning from active duty, he spent many years in the hospital recovering from lung ailments, including the loss of one lung as a result of gas inhalation.
Lloyd is survived by his loving family; David (Connie) Wieslander, their two children, Joe and Jay Wieslander and great-grandchildren, Baylee and Brandon; Jerry Wieslander and his children, Shane and Megan Wieslander; Eddie Wieslander (Dianna) and their children, Ladd (Teresa) Wieslander and Sarah Darling [editor note: this is a stage name; she is a professional singer] and his great-grandson, Ty Edward Wieslander: and one daughter, Mina Wieslander-Heldenbrand (Denny) Mitchell and their children, Lisa and Mike Heldenbrand.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise E.; a granddaughter, Brandy Wieslander; and his beloved poodles, Pepper and Pepper II.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2006, at the Mitchellville United Methodist Church, with interment following at the Mitchellville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00pm-8:00pm Friday at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home in Mitchellville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mitchellville Community Center or to Mitchellville United Methodist Church.
